    Honoring Beer during Military Month

Post  Python on Fri May 22, 2015 12:29 pm

Profession: Retired M/Sgt. USAF, with 20 years service, in 1966. I was a Crew Chief on the P47N, stationed on Guam; and the P51, in New Hampshire. I also worked on the C47 and C45. After 5 years, in Aircraft & Engine Maintenance, I attended Flight Engineer School. Upon completion, I was assigned to B29's in Idaho. Our whole outfit was, subsequently, sent overseas to Tripoli, Libya. Upon completion of that tour, I returned to stateside. During the rest of my tour in the USAF, I flew in the C124, the fore runner of massive cargo airplanes, and in the RC121D, Radar Connie. Got to see most of the known world and accrued over 25,000 hours flying time.

Guam was a blast for me. Only 18 years old I was sent to Instrument Specialist School in Japan. When I returned to Guam they made me a Crew Chief, and I had my own P47 to baby. At that time the Specialist system was not in affect in the Army Air Force. If you were Crew Chief you maintained and worked on all the aircraft systems. Fun Fun!!

My class at Flight Engineer School, Chanute Field, Illinois, (I am fifth from the left in the rear row), circa 1950/51. Some are wearing the new blues but others were still in their Army uniforms. The chandeover was in transition.

When I retired from the USAF, I attended Farrier School at Oregon State University and pursued that vocation for nine years. I then became interested in the Commercial Sign business, in which I remained for 15 years, until my final retirement.
