    Happenings and Events

Red Baron World League (RBWL) – RAF 209 continued to be a strong contender for the cup with RBWL with a 6 wins -1 loss record.

Flanders Air War II – Practice continued on Tuesday nights for the upcoming Flanders Air War Meet to be held in late August. Pilots are practicing flying 1915-16 Allied bombers and fighters by using dead reckoning techniques. Missions being practiced include pursuit flying and combat techniques, two-seater deep recon, artillery spotting, trench mapping, and bombing missions.

During the Great War the German held St. Mihiel salient was chosen for the U.S. Army’s first offensive under the command of General Pershing. Over 1400 aircraft under the command of General William Mitchell supported the advancing US and French troops. RAF 209 wishes to duplicate this important American victory.

Aces of Aces Retires – RAF 209 was saddened to process the retirement of Major Neobaron. Major Neobaron was one of the pillars of the Red Baron community. He was an outstanding war planner, community leader, and about all a great pursuit pilot. To some he was another Mannock and to others Richthofen but to the squadron he was a comrade-in-arms. He infused RAF 209 with the will to win but to practice good sportsmanship and uphold the honour code while doing it. Neobaron was the very embodiment of “Might and Main.” He will be missed but never forgotten.

Using evasive tactics coupled with daring and fortitude bomber pilots were able to accomplish two penetration reconnaissance and bombing missions deep into the enemy heartland while scouts and fighters were able to restrain enemy efforts to destroy bombers and ground targets.
